Rebecca Campbell’s book, Light is the New Black is a fabulous book about finding your soul’s calling. And it’s more of a work book than a simple read.
It’s a book for Lightworkers and soulpreneurs who want to come out of their spiritual closet and shine their light into the world. And I can imagine it would be equally useful for anyone simply wanting to understand what they have been put on earth to do.
The books says that it’s more important than ever before to embrace our calling – the world needs us! And, that it’s ok to take that leap of faith and do what our soul is calling us to do. We will be supported.
One of the quotes I loved most, is that:
You can lose your job but you cannot lose your calling.
It doesn’t go away, our soul whispers constantly to us – through dreams, signs, messages, recurring patterns – it’s speaking to us and nudging us constantly in the direction of our true path. I know that is true for me. How about you?
Pinpoint your calling with solid questions
It asks us to consider questions like:
- What topic can you never get enough information about?
- What comes naturally to you?
- What do people thank you for?
- What do you love doing more than anything else?
- What’s your secret dream?
- What could you talk about all night long without knowing where the time went?
- What would you get out of bed for at 6am on a Sunday?
- What are most of your books about?
- If you could go back to the day you left school, what would you choose to do for a career
- What is your soul calling you to do right now?
- What are you going to to do about it?
They are simple but powerful questions, woven beautifully into Campbell’s own story of enlightenment and outing herself from her spiritual closet.
She says that often when it feels like our life is turning to the brown murky stuff, it is the time of greatest transformation, insight and learning – and indeed, the time our soul’s whisper turns more into a scream at us to pay attention.
One of the other powerful mantras in the book, was:
I have a job that only I can do and I am rewarded beyond my wildest dreams.
This resonated so strongly with me. Understanding and improving my own money mindset is something I worked on a lot in 2015.
Denise Duffield-Thomas’s Lucky Bitch Money Bootcamp really helped to mirror to me some of my money blocks. I highly recommend this program if you want to work on your money mindset in 2016.
I also love this mantra about calling vs job, because it reminds me of the unique skills I have – and that we all have within us. The unique combination of skills, talents and experience that allow us to package it in a way that no one else can.
The book says that once we find our soul’s calling, our purpose is to give it away – that is, to put it out into the world and shine our light.
Light is the New Black has provided me with so many AHA’s and thought-provoking exercises and questions. It’s an entertaining, inspiring read from a beautiful woman I had the pleasure of meeting in late 2015.
If you’re grappling with identifying or pursuing your soul’s calling, I can’t recommend this book highly enough!
